Kaiser Permanente affiliate wants to build a $200M medical facility in Virginia

Rockville, Md.-based Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States, an affiliate of Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente, is looking to build a medical facility in the Washington, D.C. area, according to a Washington Business Journal report.

The $200 million, 270,000-square-foot facility would be located in Woodbridge, Va., part of Prince William County. It would include five and a half stories, more than 1,200 surface and structured parking spaces and a proposed future expansion of about 65,000 square feet, according to the report, which cites an application filed with the county. Kaiser officials said in the application the facility would provide urgent and specialty care, such as women's health services and pharmacy, lab, optometry and outpatient surgery. A "health park" is also part of the plans.

"Kaiser plans to continue to expand throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. based on the needs of the community and its growing membership base," officials said in the application, according to the report.

Kaiser officials expect to initially hire 185 permanent employees for the new Virginia facility.
