6 hospitals planning facility upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced or completed plans in the last week to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities.

1. New Mexico hospital starts $15M expansion on cancer center

Construction is underway at Memorial Medical Center in La Cruces, N.M., on a $15 million expansion on its cancer center, reports Las Cruces Sun-News.

2. Siteman Cancer Center opens satellite location
Siteman Cancer Center, based at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, opened a satellite location July 1 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis.

3. UChicago Medicine, other hospitals collaborate for asthma center on city's South Side
The University of Chicago Medicine's Urban Health Initiative and the Department of Pediatrics are heading up a collaboration of healthcare providers to develop the South Side Pediatric Asthma Center to offer residents high-quality pediatric asthma management on Chicago's South Side.

4. UPMC Susquehanna spends $5M on former outlet mall site
UPMC Susquehanna in Williamsport, Pa., purchased a three-building former retail plaza in McElhattan, Pa., with the goal of using the space for future healthcare services.

5. MetroHealth taps national firm to engineer campus transformation
Hammel, Green and Abrahamson will serve as master architect and engineer for Cleveland-based The MetroHealth System's main campus transformation project.

6. Grady Health System plans $23M renovation of HIV/AIDS center
Atlanta, Ga.-based Grady Health System is planning a $23 million renovation of its Ponce de Leon Center, which is one of the nation's largest HIV/AIDS programs, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
