3 things to know about Kaleida Health's new $270M children's hospital

Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health will open its John R. Oishei Children's Hospital this week, The Buffalo News reports.

Here are three things to know about the hospital.

1. The $270 million facility will open on the Buffalo (N.Y.) Niagara Medical Campus.

2. Plans to build a hospital next to Buffalo General Medical Center were first announced in 1999, roughly a year after the creation of Kaleida Health. However, a lack of funding, as well as opposition from pediatricians, staff, residents and business owners, stalled the plans.

3. The 12-story hospital will house specialized pediatric care, labor and delivery services, post-partum care, a high-risk pregnancy center, a women's health unit and a gynecological department. The additions include a hospital tower and a connected outpatient center.
