15 hospitals planning facility upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced in the last week plans to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities.

1. Acadia Healthcare breaks ground on new behavioral health hospital
Franklin, Tenn.-based Acadia Healthcare broke ground Thursday on its new $24 million behavioral health hospital in Conway, Ark., according to a report on ArkansasMatters.com.

2. Methodist University Hospital's $280M expansion underway
Memphis, Tenn.-based Methodist University Hospital broke ground Wednesday on its $280 million master campus plan, according to The Daily News.

3. $15M expansion underway at Douglas County Hospital
Alexandria, Minn.-based Douglas County Hospital broke ground on a $15 million expansion project Sept. 30, reports Twin Cities Business.

4. State commissioner recommends approval for proposed Prince George's hospital project
The proposed Prince George's County Regional Medical Center in Largo, Md., is one step closer to fruition, reports The Washington Post.

5. Wilkes-Barre General Hospital breaks ground on $40M expansion
Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) General Hospital will begin construction on its $40 million vertical expansion within the next month, Times Leader reports.

6. Piedmont Atlanta Hospital to undergo $603M expansion
Piedmont Atlanta Hospital will start construction on a 16-story patient tower in January as part of the hospital's $603 million expansion efforts.

7. Northside Hospital plans 8-story expansion
Northside Hospital-Atlanta will build an eight-story addition to an existing building on its Sandy Springs, Ga.-based campus, pending approval from city council, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

8. Nassau University Medical Center opens new primary care center
Long Island's NassauUniversityMedicalCenter in East Meadow, N.Y., opened its new multimillion dollar, 38,000-square-foot primary medical care center.

9. Ernest Health breaks ground on new rehabilitation facility in Arizona
Albuquerque, N.M.-based Ernest Health started construction on a new rehabilitation hospital in Flagstaff, Ariz., reports Arizona Daily Sun.

10. Northwell Health opens health center for liver diseases
New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health on Sept. 30 opened the new Sandra Atlas Bass Center for Liver Diseases in Manhasset, N.Y.

11. MetroHealth opens new critical care pavilion
Cleveland-based MetroHealth opened a 100,000-square-foot critical care pavilion in mid-September.

12. Brigham and Women's Hospital opens Building for Transformative Medicine
Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital will open the Building for Transformative Medicine to patients Oct. 3. At the new facility, leading clinicians and scientists will work together to advance care for patients suffering from neurologic, orthopedic and rheumatologic conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and rheumatoid arthritis.

13. Christus Health Shreveport-Bossier plans Louisiana's first microhospital
Christus Health Shreveport-Bosier will operate Louisiana's first microhospital in Bossier City, La., according to The Times.

14. Kaiser Permanente to open 2nd Fort Collins clinic
Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente will open its second clinic in Fort Collins, Colo., next year, the Coloradoan reports.

15. Missouri health officials consider opening tuberculosis hospital
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is asking for study bids to help them plan a tuberculosis treatment center to replace the state's infectious disease hospital that closed two years ago, St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
