10 Statistics on Physician Income, Patients and the PPACA

Jackson Healthcare, a healthcare staffing company, has released its annual study of trends affecting physicians' medical practices and careers.

The company surveyed 1,527 physicians from April 18 to June 5. According to the survey, physicians whose income increased in the past year are more likely than those whose income decreased to report the following concerning their patients and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

  • Saying their patients haven't been doing more cost-comparative shopping (62 percent versus 46 percent)
  • Saying their patients haven't been delaying services, procedures or electives (51 percent versus 24 percent)

 

  • Saying their patients haven't become more cost-conscious during the past year (41 percent versus 27 percent)
  • Planning to participate as a provider in the PPACA exchanges (59 percent versus 49 percent)
  • Adding patients who have gotten coverage through the exchanges (26 percent versus 16 percent)
