Healthcare Reform Law Expands Community Health Centers

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced grants have been awarded to 219 community health centers to expand access to care and create new jobs.

Under the healthcare reform law, the grants will be used to increase healthcare access for more than 1.25 million new patients and create 5,640 new jobs, principally for physicians, nurses, dental providers and many other staff supporting services.

"Health centers serve more than 20 million patients nationwide and are an integral part of our health care system," said Mary K. Wakefield, PhD, RN, administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration. "These awards demonstrate our commitment to increasing access to quality healthcare through the creation of new health center sites."
