Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital refocusing north campus

Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Ga., plans to consolidate surgical services to its main campus while it does further evaluation in regard to the hospital's future, according to a report from The Albany Herald.

The hospital has two campuses in Albany — its main campus and its north campus, formerly Palmyra Medical Center.

Laura Shearer, senior vice president of patient care and CNO at Phoebe, told The Albany Herald the closure would be temporary so that hospital officials may work with Sg2, an Illinois-based healthcare consulting company, to establish a long-term plan for the north campus.

In the meantime, consolidation of surgical services prevents unnecessary duplication of services at campuses, according to Phoebe officials.

"We have a team already at work evaluating what works best and most efficiently on both north and main campuses," Phoebe President and CEO Joel Wernick said in a news release late Wednesday, according to the report. "The reality of a state where Medicaid has not expanded forces us to assure we extract maximum value from the facilities on both campuses."
