Florida Hospital adds tele-ICU

Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center in Lake Placid recently contracted with Advanced ICU Care for a telemedicine intensive care unit service, according to a report from the News-Sun.

The hospital has been working with the Saint Louis, Mo.-based company since June and has already noticed increased efficiencies in the ICU, according to Florida Hospital Heartland CEO Eric Stevens.

Florida Hospital Heartland leadership implemented the system because the hospital didn't have the resources to have enough critical care physicians on site around the clock. Now, the hospital has faster ICU turnover, which frees up beds for patients who need them, according to the report.
