3 things to know about the new University Medical Center New Orleans

University Medical Center New Orleans, which will be part of New Orleans-based LCMC Health System, officially opens next month.

Here are three things to know about the new medical center.

1. UMC New Orleans will open to patients on Aug. 1, replacing New Orleans-based Interim LSU Hospital. The outpatient clinic will open on the new campus Aug. 10, according to WWLTV.

2. UMC New Orleans features three patient towers with a capacity for 446 beds, including 60 behavioral health beds, 19 operation rooms, 56 emergency department exam rooms, nine acute treatment rooms and five trauma rooms, according to UMC.

3. The $1.1 billion facility serves as a key partner of LSU Health Science Center New Orleans, Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans and other academic institutions.
