Indiana Governor Signs Anesthesiologist Assistant Licensure Bill Into law

Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed into law a bill that authorizes licensure for anesthesiologist assistants.

Anesthesiologist assistants are highly skilled non-physician anesthesia care providers who only provide care under the medical direction of a physician anesthesiologist. They are now authorized to practice in 16 states and the District of Columbia.

According to Indiana Society of Anesthesiologists President William L. McNiece, MD, the new law will help Indiana keep pace with the growing demand for anesthesia services while ensuring patient safety.
