Urgent Care Group to Join Wilmington Health's ACO

Medac, an urgent care provider organization, and Wilmington (N.C.) Health have announced a new affiliation, effective March 1.

As part of the partnership, Medac and its urgent care centers around Wilmington, N.C, will become part of Physicians Healthcare Collaborative, a Medicare accountable care organization sponsored by Wilmington Health. Additionally, Wilmington Health will extend its electronic health record and other infrastructure to Medac.

According to Jeff James, CEO of Wilmington Health, the affiliation will help reduce patient visits to the emergency room and improve post-urgent care follow up.

Medac will keep its name and ownership structure.

"Medac is a recognized and trusted name in the urgent care space of healthcare. They have an excellent brand and their providers share our vision and are committed to the same principles of reducing cost, demonstrating quality and improving patient experience," Jeff James, CEO of Wilmington Health, said in a news release.
