UNC Health Care, Alignment Healthcare collaborate for population health program

Chapel Hill-based UNC Health Care is forming an operation and strategic partnership with Irvine, Calif.-based Alignment Healthcare that is focused on population health management, and the organizations will begin offering a Medicare Advantage HMO plan for seniors in Wake County, North Carolina.

"This program offers a new type of health plan that will improve patient outcomes, increase quality of care, and reduce costs by tapping into UNC Health Care's broad network of providers and depth of clinical expertise," said Allen Daugird, MD, president of UNC Physicians Network and chief value officer at UNC Health Care.

Through the introduction of the Medicare Advantage plan, the organizations hope to improve health outcomes for seniors in Wake County.

"Our strategic partnership with UNC Health Care and the ability to provide an unrivaled care coordination model to the eligible seniors in Wake County will create a new care standard in North Carolina," said, Hyong Kim, MD, CMO at Alignment Healthcare.
