Oneida to participate in Basset Healthcare's MSSP, commercial ACOs through population health partnership

Oneida (N.Y.) Healthcare is teaming up with Cooperstown, N.Y.-based Basset Healthcare Network to enhance primary care and population health management in the Oneida region.

Oneida's board has been contemplating a partnership with a larger organization for three years, and chose Basset for its depth of experience in primary care and early success with population health and accountable care organizations, according to Oneida President and CEO Gene Morreale.

As part of the freshly-inked partnership, the two organizations will exchange best practices to reduce costs and improve patient outcomes. Oneida will also be able to participate in Basset's Medicare Shared Savings Program ACO, Basset Accountable Partners, as well its commercial accountable care programs with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.

Oneida will remain independent from Basset, though the organizations plan to revisit the agreement in two or three years to evaluate its effectiveness.
