Louisiana physicians earn $3.4M in value-based incentives for improving Medicaid outcomes

As part of its efforts to shift more healthcare services to a value-based system, UnitedHealthcare awarded 249 Louisiana physician practices more than $3.4 million in bonus payments for improving the quality of care for Medicaid patients.

The bonuses were awarded for achieving the top scores on quality measures over a six-month period in 2015. These measures included preventive services and screenings, such as adolescent well-care checkups and Chlamydia screening for women, as well as patient engagement and education. Improvement was seen across the state in these measures.

More than 75 percent of enrollees in UnitedHealthcare's Louisiana Medicaid plan access care from a practice that earned bonus payments.

"Thousands of UnitedHealthcare Medicaid plan participants statewide receive quality, compassionate care from hundreds of physicians who deliver more personalized and better connected care," Ann Kay Logarbo, MD, medical director of UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Louisiana, said in a statement announcing the results. "We are grateful for the opportunity to recognize and reward Louisiana physicians for embracing the value-based care model and helping Medicaid members live healthier lives."
