JFK Medical Center, Horizon BCBS of New Jersey Form ACO

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and JFK Medical Center announced the launch of a collaborative accountable care organization to improve care and patient outcomes for more than 5,000 Horizon BCBS of New Jersey members.

The ACO is set to begin on April 1, 2014, and more than 140 physicians and 50 practice locations in central New Jersey are set to participate, according to the report.

Under the ACO agreement, Horizon BCBS of New Jersey will provide care coordination payments to the ACO to take on additional accountability for improving the health and patient experience as well as controlling the cost of care for its patients. The ACO and its affiliated practices have an opportunity to share in the resulting financial savings.

"Our physician-led Board of Directors chose Horizon because it was evident they excelled in the qualities needed for the ACO to be truly successful," said William F. Oser, vice president of medical affairs and director of ACOs at JFK Medical Center.
