BCBS extends MissionPoint partnership 2 years

BlueCross Blue Shield of Tennessee and Nashville, Tenn.-based MissionPoint Health Partners greed to extend their accountable care network agreement two years and expand its offerings, according to the Nashville Business Journal.

MissionPoint Health is a Medicare Shared Savings Program accountable care organization, established in 2012 by Saint Thomas Health, a division of St. Louis-based Ascension. MissionPoint and BCBS agreed to create a health plan for self-funded employer groups, exclusively using MissionPoint's network, according to earlier coverage by the Nashville Business Journal. This original four-year agreement between MissionPoint and BCBS was inked in 2013 and came into effect on Jan. 1, 2014.

The extension will last until 2020, incorporates 10 more counties and builds on the original offerings of the contract. Now in addition to the original health plan, the partners will also offer a dual-network option for self-funded employer groups, according to the report.
