Steven M. Safyer, MD. President and CEO of Montefiore Medical Center (New York City). Since joining Montefiore in 1982, Dr. Safyer progressed through the ranks, becoming senior vice president and CMO in 1998 and president and CEO in 2008. Dr. Safyer has strengthened the relationship between Montefiore and Bronx, N.Y.-based Albert Einstein College of Medicine, which resulted in the creation of Montefiore Medicine in 2015. Dr. Safyer, who is board-certified in internal medicine, is a professor of medicine and a professor of epidemiology and population health at Einstein College of Medicine. In addition, he is a founding member of the Health Management Academy, in which executive members from the largest integrated health systems in the U.S. and innovative companies share best practices and benchmark information to support quality and efficiency improvement efforts.
