University of Chicago Medical Center. The University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of two National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Illinois. The center awards the Simon M. Shubitz Cancer Prize and Lectureship annually to bring respected scientists who have made contributions to advance cancer research to the University of Chicago, which itself is home to several cancer-related breakthroughs. The hospital is recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for Complex & Rare Cancers, and U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital nationally for cancer care for 2015-16.
