Maine Medical Center (Portland). The spine program at MMC's Neuroscience Institute is a partnership between MMC and community-based physicians that includes a spine, stroke, epilepsy and brain tumor programs. In its most recent rankings, CareChex named MMC the top hospital in the state for neurological care. The hospital has earned recognition for excellence in nursing with Magnet designation and Healthgrades recognized MMC with its Stroke Care Excellence Award for 2015, 2016 and 2017. MMC is the state's only Level I trauma center designated by the American College of Surgeons.
