University of Tennessee Medical Center (Knoxville). The 609-bed University of Tennessee Medical Center plays a crucial role in Knoxville and the surrounding region. It includes a Level I trauma center and is home to the region's only dedicated heart hospital, only adult and pediatric cancer center and only Level III neonatal intensive care unit. It also boasts a comprehensive stroke center, accredited by both The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association.
