Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston). Ranked No. 1 among Massachusetts hospitals and No. 3 in the country by U.S. News & World Report for 2016-17, Mass General was the original Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. Founded in 1811, the 999-bed medical center now houses a Level 1 trauma center and burn center. The hospital boasts an annual research budget of more than $800 million, with a research program extending among 20 clinical departments and centers.
