Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Chicago). Formed in 1972 when two of Chicago's oldest hospitals merged, Northwestern Memorial Hospital is an academic medical center that serves as the primary teaching hospital for Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. The 894-bed hospital is home to several specialty clinics, including the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute. The hospital has a medical staff of 1,603, representing virtually every medical specialty.

Magnet-designated for nursing excellence, Northwestern Memorial Hospital has gained a reputation for providing high-quality care. The hospital is ranked tenth in the nation on U.S. News & World Report's hospital Honor Roll. The publication named Northwestern Memorial Hospital the No. 1 hospital in Illinois in its 2014-15 rankings, with 13 of the hospital's adult specialties among the top 30 in the nation.

In 2014, the hospital earned an "A" grade from The Leapfrog Group for patient safety. That same year, General Electric designated Northwestern Memorial Hospital as one of its centers of excellence for total hip and knee replacement surgeries.
