Christiana Care Health System (Newark, Del.). Christiana Care dates back to 1890, and it has since become one of 20 U.S. hospitals with the most patient admissions each year and one of the country's largest community-based teaching hospitals. 

Christiana-FactsWith more than 900 beds, Christiana Care includes a medical staff of more than 1,400 physicians and surgeons. U.S. News & World Report ranked Christiana Care as the No. 1 hospital in Delaware and as one of the top 50 hospitals in the country in gynecology for 2013-14. The Magnet-designated hospital was also recognized by Healthgrades in 2014, earning awards for excellence in general surgery, orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, pulmonary care and overall clinical excellence, the latter of which means it performs in the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide.

As a branch campus of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Christiana Care plays home to the Center for Outcomes Research, a research institution with dual focus on epidemiological research and analysis of outcomes in all fields of medicine. Christiana Care is not only the lone Level I trauma center in Delaware, but also from the East Coast stretch between Baltimore and Philadelphia. The hospital includes the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, one of the first sites to receive designation from the National Cancer Institute as a Community Cancer Centers Program. Christiana Care also includes the Center for Heart & Vascular Health, where more than 1,000 open-heart surgical procedures are performed each year.
